Renewal Policy

Renewal

Books can be renewed as long as another user has not requested use of that material.  Items can be renewed online at http://albert.rit.edu/patroninfo or by contacting the circulation desk by phone or in person. 

Times when we are not able to process a renewal request

  • The item has been requested by another patron
  • You are not currently registered for courses
  • You are not currently employed by RIT (Faculty/Staff)
  • The primary cardholder is no longer affiliated with RIT (Family Borrowers/Linked accounts)
  • You have fines totalling more than $5 on your library account

Recall Policy

If a patron requests a book that is currently checked out, the original borrower receives an email with a revised due date.  Patrons are always guaranteed a three week checkout. Once the initial three weeks are passed, books can be recalled.  Patrons receive an email indicating the new due date.  Overdue recalled books accrue fines of $1.00 per day.

Our Recall Policy allows us to give extended checkout times to our faculty and graduate students. Otherwise, all patrons would have to renew their items every three weeks as long as there were no holds.
