This guide will assist you with Research Methods in Psychology assignments. This guide provides assistance in finding articles, using selected databases and search tips related to this topic. Deaf-related resources tend to be in the HV2300-HV2600 area for books, bound journals, and DVDs.

Your assignment asks you to find empirical studies. An empirical study is one that is based on "observation, investigation, or experiment rather than on abstract reasoning, theoretical analysis, or speculation."* Empirical studies should be divided into the following parts: abstract, introduction, method, results, discussion, and references. Typically these studies also include tables, figures, and charts to display collected data. (Information from Psychology InfoGuide).

Below is an example of an empirical study:

Palmer, C.G.S, Boudreault, P., Berman, B.A., Wolfson, A., Duarte, L., Venne, V.L. & Sinsheimer, J.S. (2017). Bilingual approach to online cancer genetics education for Deaf American Sign Language users produces greater knowledge and confidence than English text only: A randomized study.  Disability And Health Journal, 10(1), 23 -32. http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.dhjo.2016.07.002
