Student Papers and Projects: Requests by Faculty

Requests by Faculty

Faculty may request to have an originality report generated by the Turnitin Administrator for an individual student paper or project. Alternatively, faculty can request to have an account created directly on the Turnitin system. Please see Turnitin Accounts for more details.

It is recommended, though not required, that the student author(s) be informed that an originality report is being requested for a document and that the student author(s) be included in all related correspondence.

To request an originality report be generated by the Turnitin Administrator for a student paper or project the faculty requestor must do the following:

  1. Remove all identifying author information (e.g. student’s name) from the document being submitted to the Turnitin system.  This is to protect the privacy of the student author.
  2. Email an attached copy of the document being submitted to the Turnitin system administrator (Lara Nicosia at turnitin@rit.edu) along with one of the following statements:
  • Submission with option to submit again; Do not share output with student
  • I hereby request to have the attached student document submitted to the Turnitin system for an originality check. I understand that this tool does not explicitly detect plagiarism, but instead checks for improper citation or potential plagiarism against both online sources and documents in the tool’s database.I may wish to have the attached student document checked for originality in the future and do not wish to have the aforementioned document added to the Turnitin database.
