Gallaudet 11 Space Experiment

The photo above is from the: U.S. Navy/Gallaudet University collection. Eleven deaf men with inner ear problems from Gallaudet worked with NASA to study the long-term effects of weightlessness on the human body from 1958-1968. They were good candidates for these experiments because they did not have motion sickness. The men participated in various weightlessness, balance, and motion-sickness experiments that helped NASA develop plans on sending astronauts to space.

A Gallaudet Museum "Deaf Difference and Space Survival" exhibit highlighted their contributions to the NASA spaceflight program.
