Step 1: Topic Selection and Mentor Assignment (beginning of 2nd semester during or very soon after taking PROF 776-1
- Student books a 10-minute slot on the thesis schedule
- Student prepares 2-3 slides including a Literature Scan proposing the topic with some preliminary ideas about data sources, methodology, etc.
-Student presents this to the Chair during the 10-minute slot
-Chair accepts or rejects topic (or suggests an alternative topic)
-Chair nominates a Mentor (subject to Mentor acceptance)
Step 2: Proposal (2nd semester)
-Student works closely with Mentor to prepare the Proposal document strictly following the approved Proposal template
-Includes Literature Review (LR) covering at least 15 articles with key takeaways
-Student prepares 7-8 slides to be presented and approved by Mentor
-Student books a 20-minute slot to present Proposal ensuring that Mentor is also available
-Student emails the Proposal document to the Chair (and Mentor) at least 24 hours in advance of the slot
-If the student gets an S grade on the Proposal, he/she can be registered for the Thesis
Step 3: Thesis (3rd semester for DA)
- Student works closely with Mentor to prepare the Thesis strictly following the approved Thesis template
- LR expanded to include minimum 30 articles/sources, all of which must be reported and described in the LR. Key takeaways to be bulleted below the LR (will be different from those listed in the Proposal)
- Committee will be looking for a) depth of research in the LR and b) application of techniques and methodology learned in the program to a body of data
- Student prepares a PPT presentation consisting of 10-12 slides focusing on problem statement, key takeaways from the LR, methodology, analysis and results. PPT to be approved by Mentor
- When ready, student books 45-minute slot to present and defend Thesis, ensuring Mentor is available
- Student emails Thesis document (only) to Chair at least 48 hours in advance of slot
- Student has to achieve at least 80% in the rubrics to pass the Thesis
- Last date of Thesis presentations for all relevant students is aligned with deadline for certification in that particular semester
Step 4: Post-Thesis Procedures
- Once the Thesis is approved, student has to immediately upload Thesis document to MyCourses
- Mentor checks for similarity, etc.
- Mentor informs student that similarity, etc. has been passed
- Mentor completes Rubrics sheet with marks and Turnitin score and sends the same to Chair
- Student sends signature page of Thesis in PDF format to Mentor, who signs and sends it to Chair. Chair signs and returns signature page to student.

- When student receives confirmation from ProQuest, student is ready to be certified for graduation (assuming all courses are complete with the requisite CGPA)
