EndNote: Capture References

Get acquainted with EndNote Online, a powerful citation management system provided by RIT Libraries

Automatic reference capture in your browser

Installing EndNote browser tools can help to automatically capture reference information on certain information-rich web sites and reference databases.

Capture references in Internet Explorer

If you are searching for references in a database that does not support Direct Export, you can use the Capture button in the EndNote toolbar for direct export of references to your personal library.  This toolbar is only available for Internet Explorer and will install with Cite While You Write. For information on downloading EndNote tools, see the Getting Started page of this guide.

Capture references in another browser (Firefox, Chrome, Safari)

The basic functions of EndNote will work with other browsers.  You can also employ the Capture Reference applet found on the Downloads page in EndNote in place of the browser toolbar.  The Capture Reference applet will work in any browser.

If the Capture Reference applet does not successfully capture your reference information, you will probably need to import saved text files of your exported references.  See the Import References page of this guide for more information.
