Exporting from EndNote to BibTeX

The references you compile using EndNote Basic can be exported to the BibTeX file format. The following tutorial demonstrates how to do so. 

  1. Open EndNote. Go to the Format tab and select Export References.
  2. Select the references you want to export under the References drop down menu.
  3. Under the Export Style drop down, select BibTeX Export.
  4. Click Save. This will download a plain text file called "exportlist.txt." Make sure you change the file extension to ".bib" for compatibility with LaTeX software. 
  5. If the file is not already there, move the .bib file to the directory in which your main document is saved.
  6. Open LaTeX Editor
  7. While in LaTeX go to File then click on Open then select the EndnoteBibTex.bib file you created
  8. Your references should appear like the following screen shot below:
