Wicked Problem 2019: Sustainable Agriculture

Wicked Problems: Problems Worth Solving. The wicked problem topic for 2019 is Sustainable Agriculture.

What is Sustainable Agriculture? The definition below is from the University of California. Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program.

"The goal of sustainable agriculture is to meet society’s food and textile needs in the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Practitioners of sustainable agriculture seek to integrate three main objectives into their work: a healthy environment, economic profitability, and social and economic equity."

"A wicked problem is a social or cultural problem that is difficult or impossible to solve for as many as four reasons: incomplete or contradictory knowledge, the number of people and opinions involved, the large economic burden and the interconnected nature of these problems with other problems.  Poverty is linked to education, nutrition with poverty, the economy with nutrition and so on."
