Welcome

Tiger Statue / RIT Production Services

Welcome to the RIT LibGuides v2 Customizations guide!  This guide includes step-by-step directions for various customizations implemented on RIT's InfoGuides system.

Several of the customizations we have implemented at RIT rely on the LibGuides API available as part of our LibGuides CMS subscription.  Whenever possible, we have included directions on how to implement each customization both with and without the API.

Information is continually being added to this guide, so if you don't see details on a customization you are looking for, check back soon!  Feel free to contact me directly with any questions!

Accessing Your API

The LibGuides API can be accessed via the Tools menu at the top of the LibGuides system.

In order to use some of the customizations listed on this guide, you will need to access the API tool and record two pieces of information: Site ID and API Key.

Within each API option (e.g. "Guides," "Accounts," etc.), you will see a "Querystring Parameter" for "site_id" and another for "key," your institution's unique alphanumeric API key.  Record these two values for future reference.

Customizing Your System

To customize your system (e.g. homepage, guide templates, etc.), you will need administrative access. Once you login as an administrator, you can access the customization options via the "Admin" dropdown menu by selecting "Look & Feel."

If your institution has a subscription to LibGuides CMS, you might want to consider creating a custom "Development" group. This will allow you to test all changes on the group level rather than deploying changes system-wide.
