Finding Encyclopedias & Books

Encyclopedias and handbooks are good places to get background information and topic ideas. For example, you can search the library catalog for topics like politics and encyclopedias and browse for topic ideas.

Some encyclopedias are online, and some are available as print books that can be checked out. Use the RIT Libraries Catalog to find encyclopedias and books on your chosen topic.

Check out American Freedom Speeches, DVDs of famous speeches translated into ASL. Use the "request tab" as the materials are off-site. When requested, delivery will occur within a day. The materials include the original text of famous speeches.

Use the RIT Libraries Search Catalog below to find books.

Interlibrary Loan: Books

Many books are available in the library, but sometimes, you will identify books we have not bought. Use the Information Delivery Service (IDS) to order books or book chapters. This is a free service.

IDS requests usually take 3-5 business days.  When the item arrives, you will receive an email.  It will be available for check-out at the Circulation Desk if it is an entire book.  If it is a book chapter, it will usually be delivered as a PDF to your IDS account.
