Keep in mind that most generative ai tools are not search or discovery engines. They mimic search because of the powerful pattern recognition large language models exhibit. And the biggest consideration for a business researcher is most the valuable business information is behind a paywall and not publicly available. A big exception is US company annual reports and financial filings. So access to info is a huge thing to keep in mind.
Perplexity is a generative AI tool which is trying to not just be a large language model but also a search engine. AI overviews from Google is also acting like this. But with any GenAI they can still have errors.
Though GenAI can be helpful in summarizing documents keep in mind you cannot and should no upload any content you do not have permission to upload. This includes documents and text from library databases. Our vendors prohibit this type of use.
RIT is now offering access to a few GenAI tools for RIT students staff and faculty. These include Copilot, Gemini and NotebookLM. You must access through your RIT accounts. Do not use library content in these resources.
