This guide describes the resources available at the RIT Library for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute students.

Your Library Account

All that is needed is an RIT ID card (available from the Registrar's office).

Use your account to renew library books online!

Your account expires each year and can be renewed by presenting your RIT ID at the Circulation Desk.

 

Library Policies for Osher Students

Books

  • Can borrow up to 10 books at once.
  • Can borrow books for 3 weeks.
  • Can renew books up to 3 times.
  • Can NOT use Interlibrary Loan or Connect NY to request books the library does not own.

Electronic resources

  • Can use library databases including Films on Demand.
  • Can use computers located in the library with your RIT username/password.
  • Can NOT borrow laptops.

DVDs

If there is a video in our catalog that Osher you would like to use in the classroom they can be reserved with Romea Montanaro. Her contact info is romea.montanaro@rit.edu and (585) 475-2015. You must be an Osher instructor to borrow reserve DVDs. You will need to come to the library to borrow and return any videos you wish to use in class.

  • Opposing Viewpoints (Gale)
    Full text viewpoint essays and articles on current social and political issues. Great resource to prepare for a debate!
  • CQ Researcher
    Reporting & analysis of political & social issues, with topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology & the U.S. economy.
  • Credo Reference
    Ebook collection of reference works including encyclopedias, dictionaries, biographies and quotations. Great for topic background research!
  • Gale Virtual Reference Library
    Contains searchable, full-text reference eBooks focusing on health, history and business.
  • Global Road Warrior
    Provides geographic, political, economic, corporate and travel information, and news on countries.

Video databases

  • Films on Demand
    Streaming platform for educational film and videos.
  • Lynda.com
    An online learning platform with video tutorials in a number of disciplines: 3D, video, business, photography, web design, graphic design, and more.
