The Hexacart

Hexacart soon to launch - a dynamic collaboration!

How do you promote library resources in the hallways of the College of Art & Design? With the Hexacart!! The Hexacart Project is a dynamic collaboration between Industrial Design faculty member Amos Scully, and 5 Industrial Design students and Kari Horowicz, Librarian for the College of Art & Design.

In 2018, Kari Horowicz, started an initiative to bring library materials to the hallways of the College of Art & Design to build awareness of the wonderful visual resources found in books, journals, magazines as well as library databases. Bringing the materials over proved to be challenging - and Professor Amos Scully offered to create a final project competition in his Fall 2019 Sophomore ID class to develop a design to make a cart to bring the materials over and display them in an engaging way.  The winning design team of Gwen Riemer, Lesley Mai, and Michael McNaught are now Seniors and have been assisted by fellow ID students Byrnna Justice and Xiuyu Shi in the build of the cart.

The Hexacart allows for approximately 25 books and other materials to be easily transported from the library to the College of Art & Design. The intriguing unfolding design draws people in and the modular seats create a little community around the Hexacart. It fosters a sense of sitting, looking and exploring together.

The Hexacart will launch on Tuesday February 22, 2022.
