In order to determine how to get a standard you need, you first should assess how you will use it.
Students, faculty, and other individual researchers
- Identify the specific standard needed by using the search tools on the Finding Standards page of this guide - if we don't have it in one of our subscribed or freely available sources, then:
- Search the RIT Libraries catalog for the standard to check if we already have a copy (see box below). If we don't own a copy of the document, then:
- Request a copy via IDS Express/Interlibrary loan (see box below) for short-term use by an individual or small research group
Instructional faculty using standards as course material
- Identify the specific standard needed by using the search tools on the Finding Standards page of this guide - if we don't have it in one of our subscribed or freely available sources, then:
- Refer to the Using Standards in the Classroom box below to initiate a request to the ANSI University Outreach Program. If the document is not available this way, then:
- Contact the Engineering Librarian by using the Chat/Email/Appointments button to discuss other options
Students working on a Multidisciplinary Senior Design project
- Identify the specific standard needed by using the search tools on the Finding Standards page of this guide - if we don't have it in one of our subscribed or freely available sources, then:
- Check with your faculty advisor to see if the standard can be obtained through the ANSI University Outreach Program
