Research Databases

Different types of Research Databases

Some databases are "multidisciplinary," meaning they gather information about lots of topics (or "disciplines") within one searchable interface. Some databases offer content related to a certain subject, or field of study.

Suggested Databases

Some of the databases listed below include trade and popular magazines as well as scholarly journals. When conducting a search, you will need to check the filter option, “peer-reviewed,” so that your results list includes only articles from scholarly journals if required by your professor.

The multi-disciplinary databases below offer a variety of topics and are a good place to start your research:

Multidisciplinary database that includes journals relevant to writing, rhetoric, and composition.
Proquest Complete This link opens in a new window
All-in-one database that provides coverage for nearly all academic areas of study including arts, business, humanities, health, social sciences, sciences and current affairs.
JSTOR This link opens in a new window
Like Academic Search Elite and ProQuest Complete, JSTOR is a multidisciplinary database that includes journals relevant to the field. JSTOR is particularly useful for articles published prior to 2012.
MLA International Bibliography with Full Text (EBSCO) This link opens in a new window
The definitive index for the study of language, literature, linguistics, rhetoric and composition, folklore, and film with full text for more than 1,000 journals, including many of the leading publications in these fields.
Project MUSE This link opens in a new window
Full-text access to over 600 high quality, peer reviewed journals from leading scholarly publishers primarily in the humanities and social sciences. We subscribe to the premium collection.

Full text viewpoint essays and articles on current social and political issues. Great resource for controversial topics.

Identifies articles in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences.

Full text of IEEE and IEE journals, magazines, transactions and conference proceedings as well as active IEEE standards. Ebook packages include over 1200 IEEE/Wiley Press titles and over 950 MIT Press titles in computer science and engineering technologies.

APA PsycArticles
Full text articles in psychology, many published by the American Psychological Association.
Arts & Humanities Database
This ProQuest full-text journal database has been created to complement the CSA Illumina portfolio of Arts and Humanities databases. Subscribers to any of these databases - including ARTBibliographies Modern, Design and Applied Arts Index, British Humanities Index and Philosopher's Index amongst others - can link directly from citations in these indexes to the corresponding full-text articles.
Agricultural & Environmental Science Database
