Open Access Publishing

An introduction to Open Access publishing and the services provided by RIT Libraries

Open Access Services

Open Access Journals:

Explore open-access journals and books that provide free and instant access to full-text research online. Readers can download, copy, distribute, print, and link to articles at no cost to them or to their institutions.

For information on providing open access to articles and other materials published elsewhere, visit the RIT Scholar Works website. For more information about the process of submitting to or creating an open access publication, contact Nick Paulus.

Further questions about Open Access in general, as well as predatory publishing can be directed to Frances Andreu.

RIT Scholar Works:

RIT Scholar Works is the Open Access digital institutional repository for the Rochester Institute of Technology. It contains the full-text (or equivalent) of the products of the research, scholarly, and creative pursuits of RIT’s faculty, staff, and students.

For information about what is accepted to RIT Scholar Works and how to submit your work, visit the Scholar Works FAQ page or contact Frances Andreu.

More information about self-archiving is available on the Fair Use & Copyright page.

Open Educational Resources (OER):

Open Educational Resources (OERs) are educational materials and resources that are freely accessible to use, adapt, and share. This can include, but is not limited to, formats such as:

  • Textbooks
  • Learning modules
  • Assignments/Worksheets
  • Instructional videos
  • Syllabi
  • Software and other digital tools.

If you are interested in creating or adopting OER materials, you can find further information in our OER infoguide, or contact Frances Andreu
