Subscribe to Open

The subscribe to open model (S2O) is an approach some journals take in order to flip subscription content to open access. Under a S2O model, publishers annually establish a minimum sustainability target needed to fund the journals. If that target is met by the current number of subscribers, then all content for that year is made open access. If that target is not met, the the content is only available to subscribers.

S2O models may also include additional benefits, such as the waiving of APCs.
