SOMETHING TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN IN DOUBT

- BE AWARE OF WHAT IS TRENDING:

  • Peer reviewed scholarly journal articles can still be retracted after being published due to plagiarism, author complaints, incomplete or false data.     Go to the Retraction Watch website for further information and about cases.
  • You only cite what you have actually read .
  • During your last year at RIT and after you graduate you may be contacted by predatory publishers not recommended by your professional associations.  There is a site to check for predatory journals at https://predatoryjournals.com/journals/

WHEN IN DOUBT CHECK BOTH THE FORMAT AND CONTENT

A scholarly journal article has an abstract, introduction, method, results, conclusion and a list of references (bibliography).  The journal article's topic should be easy to understand as you read its abstract and introduction.  The method, results and conclusion sections discuss and compare the conducted research.  Authors have to include their cited references about research by other scientists. The use of references distinguish scholarly journal articles from non scholarly journals.
