This is a calligraphic manuscript inspired by a 19th century book that recorded the musical notations of birdsongs. The calligraphy is written over brightly-patterned paste papers. Designs on the paper are reminiscent of bird feathers, bird song recordings (sound wave patterns,) nests and grasses.
This is a portfolio of original paste papers by several artists who worked in western Massachusetts. It shows a creative range of styles that can be achieved by working in the paste paper medium.
