Keep in Mind

Availability of company financials varies. US based companies which are publicly traded are required to release financials to the Securities Exchange Commission and investors. As a result financials for these types of companies are publicly available.

Private companies are not required to release their financials publicly. Sometimes limited estimates can be found in Hoovers.

Use NetAdvantage to examine publicly traded companies. NetAdvantage contains current valuation data, financials, stock reports and industry surveys.

Financials

US based publicly traded companies will publish an annual report and/or a 10-K. Check your company's website for these documents.

What is the difference between an annual report and a 10-K? Sometimes the annual report is an abbreviated version of 10-k information represented in a format with great graphic design. A 10-k is an official document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

For example Apple Inc only produces a 10-K while GE Aerospace produces both an annual report and a 10-k.

R&D (Research & Development) Ratios

Look for R&D ratios in your company's Annual Report or 10-K
Not all companies report this ratio but it might be there. The annual report will have will be the raw data to calculate the ratio yourself.
