Terminology

When conducting historical research it is essential to keep in mind that terms for things, groups of people, events, etc., change drastically over time. You may come across some terms that were commonplace and acceptable years ago that are now deemed offensive, racist, misogynistic, or pejorative. This may make you feel uncomfortable. Sometimes, however, especially when searching through the text of an historical newspaper, terms such as these must be used to find what you're looking for.
