CITING ETHICS 101

  1. You cite only the journal articles that you actually read.
  2. This means you read the introduction, results , conclusion of a journal article.
  3. You do not cite the author's journal article references that you see listed at the end of the journal article.
  4. Do not cite a journal article you saw when using Googlescholar, where you see a summary or excerpts of data .

Citing tools

There are a variety of free citation management tools to help you with your research and citing.

Take time to view the tutorials first for example Zotero.  https://infoguides.rit.edu/zotero/tutorials

  1. Go to the zotero's website to register and to create your own username and password
  2. Download the zotero desktop app
  3. Download the zotero windows app to appear in Microsoft Word
  4. Download  zotero's web browser connectors
  5. Use the website forum pages to troubleshoot technical issues
  6. Zotero allows you to use googledoc or a word document to add your list of collected article citations
  7. To reorder intext citations:   highlight the intext citation then make the change then hit refresh

Zotero’s FAQ:   Zotero will renumber citations if you move text around automatically . You might have to hit the Refresh button in the Word add-on. Zoteor source link: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/52513/how-to-change-the-order-of-citation-in-word-plug-in
