Many feature and current films are available to rent without a membership on several platforms for a minimal cost (usually $2.99- $5.99). Faculty members are encouraged to suggest these access options for students and include this information in course syllabi or materials.
In order to manage the rising costs of streaming media, many academic institutions are suggesting this as an option and letting students know that paying for film access for course study can be considered equivalent to requiring textbooks or lab materials for a course.
