Deaf Characters in Films

In addition to his work on Deaf characters in Literature, Panara also studied Deaf characters in Film. He was also involved with advising on Captioned Films for the Deaf. Deaf people liked to gather in their homes to watch captioned films as a social event. Many videos have been digitized and can be found in the InfoGuide. There are some examples of TV programs with deaf characters. Newby Ely's collection, as does Linda Siple, also has many of these types of videos. Siple's collection focuses more on the portrayal of interpreters.
