Finding DVDs and YouTube Videos

The image is a DVD entitled "Ingelore". The background is beige and shows the signature "Ingelore" and a black and white photo of her. We have some DVDs related to religions and Deaf people. For example, you can use the keywords deaf* AND (Judaism OR Jew*) to retrieve results. We also have ASL translations of the Bible, and DVDs that help interpreters translate religious ceremonies. The asterisk * next to the keywords will find variations in the spelling of that word, ie, Deafened, Deafblind, etc. Narrow the RIT Libraries catalog search to videos.

YouTube has online videos you can look at. Use the keywords deaf AND (type religion). Do not use the asterisk for your keywords when searching for YouTube videos.

You can also check out the Gallaudet Video Catalog. It is best if you have the name of a person, such as the missionary,  Foster, Andrew.

Finding Books

The image is a book cover entitled (blue font) "Disability and Religious Diversity". The background shows the sky, clouds, mountains and a pagoda.

Use the keywords deaf* AND (type religion keyword) to retrieve book results.

The Gallaudet Encyclopedia and the Sage Deaf Studies Encyclopedia has articles on religions, ministers, and missionaries, for example, Andrew Foster.  Use Deaf biographies like Great Deaf Americans, Deaf Persons in the Arts and Sciences, and Movers and Shakers: Deaf People Who Changed the World to find more articles.

Finding Deaf Religious Workers

Use the Gallaudet Biography Database to find Deaf Religious Workers, such as preachers, ministers, priests, rabbis, clergy, theologians, monks, nuns, and missionaries. You can search by occupations.

If interested in articles about Deaf religious workers in popular periodicals, check out the Deaf Life magazine. It is helpful to have the name of the person you are looking for. You can also search the Gallaudet Deaf Periodicals Database to find articles in a variety of magazines.  Check the A-Z Journal Finder list to see if we have the title.

If we do not have the magazine, you can use Interlibrary Loan for free. You must register and then you can order articles and books.

This record is from the Deaf Biography Database. Note the References. These are articles, book chapters, and other items where you can find more information about the person. You can look up the title of books using our RIT Libraries Catalog,
