Sorenson Videophone App

RIT Libraries has the Sorenson videophone app installed on its computers, 1st floor. Instructions for using the retractable webcam is here.

The Sorenson videophone and the app allow DHH persons and speaking/hearing persons to communicate over the phone using a sign language operator who is visible on the screen and sign to voice/voice to sign for both parties.

Other services are individualized for the DHH person: for example, some DHH persons prefer to speak for themselves and can choose that option; there are Spanish services and options for the DB user. Speaking/hearing persons and DHH signing persons can call each other using the videophone user's phone number, and the sign language operator will appear. This is a free service for all involved parties.

The user must have a Sorenson videophone number to use the videophone app. You can register for a videophone number for free. There are several Sorenson products: nTouch videophone app for laptops and mobile devices and a videophone device.

The free Wavello app is also available for speaking/hearing persons who wish to be on the screen with the interpreter and DHH signing person. The DHH person will invite the speaking/hearing person to join a Wavello call.

If you are using Zoom or Google Meet conference calls, the DHH videophone user can dial in the number for the meeting on the nTouch device. The Sorenson relay interpreter will call into the meeting via audio and interpret for all parties.
