Services

Borrowing books and videos: Use your ID card as your library card. Faculty can borrow books until the end of the academic year unless someone requests a book. You will receive an email with the new due date. Use your library account to renew books.

Delivery form: If you need materials delivered to your office, you can complete the form.

Accessibility Tools and Library Access: This InfoGuide explains some popular accessibility tools.

Videos for use in class: If you need an RIT/NTID copyrighted video for class, first check to be sure a streaming version is available. Please fill out this media form, and the NTID Librarian will see if a streaming video is available. If it is available as a pay-per-view option, that will be recommended.

If there is no streaming video availability, you can request that the DVD or videocassette be converted to online videos through the NTID Engineering Services department. Please email the ntidvideodropbox@rit.edu address to arrange the delivery of any media to be digitized. You can also ask these services for voice interpretation and captioning. You may be asked to provide a transcript to make the voicing process more accurate and easier for the interpreters. RIT faculty need to go through the Center for Teaching and Learning. Captioning video details in Panopto are available. NTID provides captioning instructions as well. Find it under the Panopto Dem Videos and Step-by-Step Instructions.

Captioning—The turnaround time for professional captioning is about one week, so please plan accordingly. Due to the turnaround time, professional captioning is unsuitable for discussion-based activities. Instead, automatically generated speech recognition (ASR) or manually typed captions should be used.

Additionally, videos need a voice track to be captioned by our vendor (the vendor cannot translate ASL into English). After you have your voiced video, you can request professional captioning.

Instructors can request professional captions for credit-bearing course videos stored in Panopto. Make sure you have finalized all of your edits before requesting captioning. Once captions are requested, you cannot edit the video using the Panopto editor until the captions are returned. The video is viewable, while professional captions are in progress.

Please review the captioning guidelines for instructors and students. Instructions for captioning course videos stored in Panopto are included.

Streaming Video Databases: View our database subscriptions for Swank, LinkedInLearning, Kanopy, Films on Demand, Alexander Street, Docuseek, JoVE, and O'Reilly. If you want an entertainment video, please check the JustWatch website to see if it is free or at a low rental cost. We will not purchase a streaming video if it is already available through rentals at JustWatch. FYI, Pronunciator is a language learning website that provides access to courses in 164 languages (including ASL and MSL). ESL is also taught.

Interlibrary loan: If you need an article or book we do not have, you can request it for free via interlibrary loan. Fill in the interlibrary loan form. If you have the doi number of the item you need, this will speed up delivery, often within an hour!

Citation Linker: This tool is designed to help you locate articles directly within the databases.  Fill in the elements from your citation, and let the Citation Linker do the rest!

RRLC Access Pass: If you visit participating libraries, you can borrow books from them using the access pass. You must fill out this application.

Room Reservations: The EMS system allows you to reserve available library rooms, such as the Study Rooms and Conference Rooms.
