instruction

Assignment Consultation incorporating library resources: I can meet you to review how to integrate library resources within a library instruction session. We can embed available library resources to complete information fluency outcomes.

It is best to have an active learning session with the class after a demonstration of using a database. We have a library instruction classroom with laptops, or you can book a computer lab if available at your college, or students can bring their laptops to the class.

Library Instruction: I can visit your class, or your class can visit the library. We can also meet on Zoom or request a recorded video. Classes are tailored to specific course assignments and take at least 20-30 minutes. Having your syllabus to review and develop lessons for the library visit is helpful. Other classes may be a brief hello and introduction to the librarian and one or two library tools (5-15 minutes). Some faculty like to have students meet me 1-1 to follow up on their research topics and articles. They can make appointments with me via my appointment link.  Another option is an introduction to academic research, literature reviews, creating search statements, and how to evaluate resources.

Books: You can request we order books to support your class. Some eBooks have a license for three users or unlimited users and help students save money. Review our available books via the RIT Libraries CatalogeBook databases, particularly eBook Central and eBook Collection, and the O'Reilly database, linked below. Many of you use non-textbooks, which are easier to find in e-book formats. Please see the Textbooks InfoGuide for more details.

Instructional Scans: You can request scans of articles and books and post them in MyCourses. As per United States Copyright Law and the RIT Copyright Policy, the RIT Libraries is authorized to provide reproductions of copyright-protected works for the use of private study, scholarship, or research

Reserve: You can request library books and videos to be placed on reserve at the Library Services Desk. If this is on e-reserve, you can link to it in MyCourses. Physical items can be loaned out for 2 hours, one day, two days, three days, or seven days. We have a Course Reserves form for your convenience.

InfoGuides: I can create an InfoGuide. There are two main types: course and subject. Course Info Guides support a library assignment, while subject guides offer resources. View the InfoGuide page to see many examples.

Integration of InfoGuides in MyCourses: You can link directly to InfoGuides within MyCourses.

Citation Management Tools: Zotero is a popular free tool for managing citations. Another free tool is BibGuru

Student Appointments: Some professors ask students to follow up with me after class to ensure they find the appropriate project materials. My appointment calendar is available, and I can meet students via Zoom, at LBJ, or the library.

Video Tutorials: These NTID Librarian Support videos are signed, voiced, captioned, and transcribed.
