Photograph of Elizabeth DeLong(1877-1931) A Utah native, Elizabeth or "Libbie" was the "first" in many areas: the first Deaf Utah person to attend Gallaudet, became the first Deaf teacher at the Utah School for the Deaf, the first Deaf woman superintendent of the Sunday school for the Ogden Branch for the Deaf, the first Deaf president of the Utah Association of the Deaf (UAD), and the first Deaf woman National Association of the Deaf state chapter association president in the entire nation.  In 1915, she presented on women's suffrage at the UAD Convention. A new Deaf school named in her honor in Springville, Utah opened in January 2020. (Kinner, 2019).
