Dr. Bonnie Meath-Lang organized the show in honor of her former colleague and dear friend, Michael Thomas. NTID Performing Arts students, colleagues, and the RIT Dance Company faced a challenging year following the loss of Michael, a beloved professor and mentor.
In 1988, Thomas was appointed Assistant Professor/Artist-in-Residence at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, where he taught, danced, and choreographed numerous performances, including Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, Medea, Romeo and Juliet, and Cinderella. He also served as director of the Dance Company, a collaboration of Deaf and hearing students. Michael passed away on October 4, 1997, after a courageous battle with AIDS.
