The Troll and the Elephant Prince was written by Max Bush, a freelance playwright and director whose works have been widely produced on various stages. He has received several accolades, including the Distinguished Play Award from AATE, the IUPUI National Playwriting Competition, and grants from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
Bush was invited by Dr. Richard Nichols, former chair of NTID's Performing Arts Department, to spend five weeks adapting The Troll and the Elephant Prince for an NTID production. This marked NTID's first attempt at adapting and producing a children's play in both voice and sign language.
