The NTID Theatre made a rare foray into classical theatre with a production of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Patricia “Trish” Gibson Ralph, the artistic director and director of the play, noted that the actors wore “period costumes” sourced from the same firm that outfits the Royal Canadian Ballet Company for its Shakespearean productions.
The lead roles of Romeo and Juliet were portrayed by NTID alumnus Keith Cagel and Mary Beth (Barber) Motherwell. Notable performances included Kevin Nolan Sr. as Lord Capulet, Juliet’s father; Kathy Buechel, an NTID interpreter, as the Nurse, Juliet’s confidante; and Matthew Moore as Mercutio, Romeo’s close friend. Each delivered an outstanding performance, contributing to the production’s success.
