NTID Performing Arts produced three different versions of Romeo and Juliet: a traditional version, a Kabuki dance interpretation, and a modern adaptation using the original language. One of these productions featured a Broadway-style approach reminiscent of West Side Story, a reimagining of the Romeo and Juliet theme.
The stage design evoked the atmosphere of New York City, incorporating elements such as a street setup with a broken-down car, a streetlight, an apartment building, and a basketball court. The lead roles were performed by Aneesha Lane as Juliet and Michael Spady—currently one of the most notable Deaf actors on screen and stage, known for his award-winning performance in the Off-Broadway show Emperor Jones—as Romeo.
